event summary
Cloud-based Smart Dual Fuel Switching System (SDFSS) of Hybrid Space Heating of Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) and Natural Gas Furnace (NGF) for Simultaneous Reduction of Energy Cost and GHG Emission.
The SDFSS uses IoT technology and cloud computing to reduce GHG emissions while considering the economic impacts of the electricity/NG consumption from the HVAC equipment. The SDFSS uses several different parameters such as the outdoor temperature, natural gas and electricity utility pricing, equipment performance, and the date and time to predict the operational cost and GHG emission for the scenario. The SDFSS is ‘smart’ in the sense that it is capable of deciding the most cost-effective equipment option.
Presenter
Dr. Gul Demirezen, Ph.D., LEED GA
Associate Consultant, Resource Innovation
Dr. Gul is an engineer with 8+ years of academic and industrial experience. With a Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University, and an inclination towards environmental engineering nexus and sustainability of urban engineering designs, she has researched energy systems for a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable world. Through her industrial experience, she has been able to gain exposure to a broad range of energy engineering, residential and non-residential custom energy programs, energy policies, calibrated simulation modeling, billing analysis, conventional engineering calculations, and extensive data analysis. In addition to her technical skills, she retains a solid academic background of several academic publications with 65+ citations. Dr. Gul has received multiple academic excellence awards and possess volunteering and leadership experiences across numerous social and university clubs.
