event summary

Regulations aim to achieve specific outcomes, but simplifying compliance metrics can lead to unintended consequences. As we strive for higher energy efficiency standards to reduce building energy and carbon consumption, measuring and regulating become more complex. Future efforts must focus on advanced modeling of equipment energy consumption, including equipment and building control sequences. This necessitates relying on whole building energy modeling and continuous commissioning for efficient building operation. To achieve this, performance maps for equipment and better incorporation of control sequences into modeling software are essential. This presentation addresses the need to shift how we evaluate system efficiency by distinguishing between equipment and system efficacy, reviewing past experiences with "Max Tech" efficiency, assessing equipment ratings versus operational performance, and identifying necessary tool developments for evaluating building energy performance.
