Event Summary
ASHRAE Toronto is hosting a Career Panel alongside the Humber College Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology Co-op and Work Placement Services.
Humber College will provide a short presentation on the fundamentals on how to best prepare and handle interviewing to make sure you come out on top.
We have three panelists, who through their long extensive careers, have interviewed many different candidates for all sorts of positions. We will be picking their brains to see what to know to give you your best chance in successfully acing your interview.
The panel will be followed by a short Q&A session so come with questions that you hope to learn from people who have sharpened their instincts on what makes a candidate stand out.

Kurt Monteiro, P.Eng., LEED AP, HFDP, HBDP
Principal, Smith + Andersen
Over a career that spans more than 20 years, Kurt Monteiro has established a reputation that carefully balances innovation with client satisfaction.
Kurt first started at Smith + Andersen as a co-op student, before graduating from the University of Toronto with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Since then, Kurt has spent the majority of his career with Smith + Andersen and, over the last decade, has focused on healthcare and laboratory projects – particularly large P3 projects and renovations to existing healthcare facilities.
Kurt has been an active member of the ASHRAE Toronto Chapter for many years, serving on the board of governors and currently acting as President-Elect of the Chapter’s Executive Committee. He is a voting member of the ASHRAE Certification Committee, as well as a provisional corresponding member for several healthcare and laboratory technical committees.

After 28 years in the industry, I have engineered a wide variety of projects and have participated on a variety of sustainability driven building projects.
Actively involved in a full service sustainability consulting firm committed to creating synergies between economic, environmental and social goals. We work collaboratively with architects, builders, developers and property owners to create sustainable solutions for their new and existing buildings, allowing them to reap the rewards of sustainable building design, construction and operation.

Account Executive, Modern Niagara
Antonio started his career as a field technician in 2001 for Kildonan Energy Products. He was charged with servicing Variable Speed Drives, Airflow Monitoring Stations, Water Flow Meters and BTU meters. However, in early 2002, he shifted gears into sales. In 2016 he joined Modern Niagara as an Account Manager focussing on Building Automation System, and Design/Build projects.
Currently he functions as the Controls Service Account Manager focusing on Building Automation, Lighting Controls, Customer direct Design/Build opportunities, and direct to owner solution sales and design. Antonio’s ASHRAE journey began in 2003, and for the first 5 years he started off as the reception chair. He had the opportunity to hold a few different positions within the chapter including chapter president. Being in the business for more than 20 years, he has met all kinds of personalities and has had the opportunity to interview for many roles, and looks forward to sharing them at the panel.
