Event Summary



WELL is the leading tool for advancing health and well-being in building globally. Our industry's focus has been at forefront in recent times for the health and wellness in the built environment. This presentation will discuss introduction to WELL Building Standard, followed by the important concepts of Air and Thermal Comfort that influence the HVAC systems and services in the building. It will cover the design, documentation and testing aspects including a case study as pertaining to HVAC industry.

Eric Sun, WELL AP, CIE, RESET AP   

Senior Manager, Air and Thermal Comfort Concept Lead, Standard Development at International WELL Building Institute


Eric Sun serves the Standard Development team as the Air and Thermal Comfort Concepts Lead. He harnesses his international experience in indoor environmental quality and understanding of continuous monitoring systems, added to his deep understanding of building rating systems, to help progress the health and wellness movement in the built environment and beyond. 

Prior to joining the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), Eric worked as a Global Project Manager for Société Générale de Surveillance (SGC), utilizing continuous air monitoring systems combined with traditional laboratory analysis to help teams understand and improve their air quality. He also worked as a WELL Assessor for Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), conducting documentation reviews and performance verification audits for projects pursing WELL while also leading performance testing agent workshops. Additionally, Eric spent 5 years in Shanghai working as the Director of Consulting for PureLiving China and led over 450 indoor environmental quality projects abroad, including world's first LEED + WELL  double-platinum project (JLL Shanghai), China's first WELL v1 (Haworth Shanghai) project, and Asia's first LEED V4 Platinum (Glumac Shahghai) and ARC Skoru (Parkview Green Beijing) projects. He holds a B.S. in Human Biology from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). 

Out of the office, Eric enjoys hiking California's San Gabriel Mountains, hitting the driving range, tinkering with gadgets and whatever else that has his preschooler son's attention - currently tennis and marble runs.


Badri Patel, BEAP, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, WELL Faculty

Commercial Market Account Executive at Johnson Controls Canada LP


Badri is Commercial Market Account Executive at Johnson Controls Canada LP focusing on mid-market for HVAC new construction and retrofit solutions within Greater Toronto Area. His HVAC industry experience has exposure to various roles - encompassing design, construction, project management, commissioning and business development. 

He has served as 'Air and Thermal Comfort advisor' at International WELL Building Institute for consecutive two years during 2018-2020 and is currently on the WELL Homes advisory. He's early adopter of WELL AP since 2016 in Canada and joined WELL Faculty club in 2021. 

Badri is an ASHRAE member, actively engaged at ASHRAE Toronto Chapter operations. He is member on Certification Committee at ASHRAE Society. For his contributions to the industry and ASHRAE, he received Developing Leader Award and YEA Award of Individual Excellence in 2020. He has been named to the 2021 Top 40 under 40 HVACR Professionals by the NEWS.
